Practical Steps for Accessibility

  • Online Presence:

    • Alt Text for Images: Crucial for screen readers used by blind/visually impaired users.

    • Clear Navigation: Simple, uncluttered websites are easier for everyone, especially those with dyslexia or learning disabilities.

    • No Form Timeouts: Allows users with processing delays to complete forms without losing their work.

    • Non offensive language: ask for feedback, include a paragraph about your intent and open the dialogue to improve language use.

  • Physical Premises:

    • Clear Pathways: Keep spaces free of clutter to allow easy movement for wheelchair users and others.

    • Functional Toilets: Ensure accessible toilets are not used for storage (e.g., broom cupboards).

    • Working Lifts: Regular maintenance is essential.

Next Steps

  • All Participants:

    • If you are not sure about how to tackle with inclusivity and accessibility → ask questions

    • Analyse your business model to identify how accessibility can expand your market.

    • Create a visual map or diagram of your business journey, asking: "How can we create a bigger market?"

    • Share your progress in six months, tagging Myles (→ optional).
